Current Initiatives
Beyond its books and journals, Harptree occasionally supports projects, competitions and events that encourage reading, writing, reflection and public engagement.
These initiatives reflect the platform's wider commitment to storytelling, ideas and the conversations they inspire.
I Am Heather Challenge
Heather Sinclair-Johnson's journey takes her from the plains of Karamoja to the rainforests of Kalimantan and the river communities of French Guiana. Along the way, she discovers that environmental challenges are never merely scientific or political—they are also deeply human stories. The I Am Heather Challenge invites readers to become part of that wider conversation.
Inspired by The Three Mosquito Nets, the I Am Heather Challenge invites readers around the world to share a simple gesture in support of environmental awareness and the power of storytelling.
Participants are invited to record a short video — alone or with friends, family or colleagues — passing on a copy of the book and saying:
"I am Heather — and I endorse this book on climate change."
Selected contributions may be featured across the Harptree Books website and social channels.
Because sometimes, a simple gesture carries further than we think.
